Best Weapon Cards In Friends Vs Friends, Ranked
Friends vs Friends is a deckbuilder first-person-shooter where knowing what to use to cause the most violence is key. So, what weapons work best?
It feels like every day there is some new deckbuilder or roguelike indie game coming out, and while Friends vs Friends is another one in the pile, it has immediately separated itself from the pack with the brightly-colored retro-style graphics and intentionally hectic FPS gameplay.

This game oozes style, and that's pretty much what all the reviews say as well, but what about the guns? This is an FPS game after all, and the guns are pretty important. So, let's go over the best Weapons in Friends vs Friends so far and why they're so good.
While FvsF does have 8 different Weapon Cards in it alongside all the Buff, Debuff, Helpers, Jokers, and Trap cards, only 5 of these Weapons are worth being ranked as the best, and the Brasshopper is first up (so the worst of the 5) on that list.
And, while the name is cute, this is basically just a submachine gun with a whole lot of beautiful pixel-art flair. The Brasshopper is what any FPS fan would expect from an Uzi-type gun, it's a low-damage high-spread weapon with an absurdly high rate of fire and a huge ammo magazine. This combination means that players are going to need to lay a least a full clip or so into their enemy to kill them with the Brasshopper, but it'll be easier to do so than with most of the other weapons.
While this gun is quickly outclassed as players get more and more used to the gameplay loop of Friends vs Friends, it's a perfect gun for beginners or for those who aren't confident in their FPS skills. Additionally, once they unlock Myk Raver, the classic grunt-level gangster-looking Woodpecker, they'll be able to start each round with the Brasslover as that's Raver's default ability. All in all, the Brasslover is just a reliable gun that isn't the best but is far from the worst and one that also works amazingly well with cards like Big Mag, Bullet Time, Steel Bullets, or More Accuracy.
If the name wasn't obvious enough, the Boomstick is the Shotgun of choice in Friends vs Friends. And, the developers over at Brainwash Gang did a fantastic job with both the look and 'feel' of this shotgun, as every shot fired from it feels incredibly impactful and opponents immediately start running away as soon as they see someone holding it.

This incredibly classic Shotgun is like anyone familiar with video game shotguns (especially retro-shooter shotguns) would expect, an absolute beast up close but it struggles at any sort of range. Additionally, in a game where players can easily get killed in the time it takes to reload even the fastest guns, reloading the Boomstick takes proper timing or the player just becomes a sitting duck. While other Guns jump up noticeably in damage once players level them up, the Boomstick has a massive jump from level 1 to 2 (it only levels once) as it goes from dealing 13 damage per each of its six pellets to 16 damage per pellet, which is a massive 18 damage per shot increase (if everything hits)
Lastly, while this gun is incredibly powerful in any game's PvP combat, it's always one of the easiest ones for opponents to counterplay, as they just need to keep their distance or place traps at the route a Boomstick user has to use to get close. The best cards to use alongside this gun are ones like Steel Bullets, Health Down, Move Faster, Ninja Log, Big Mag, and Energy Drink.
Depending on the player's experience with shooters, the Laika will either not be on their list of enjoyable Weapons at all, or it'll be at the top. The Laika is the Revolver of the game or the 'Handcannon', and it has most of the same benefits and drawbacks as the Boomstick, only the Laika is useful at a range. It has high damage per bullet, a decent firing speed, and low weapon spread but in exchange, it has a long reload time to leave the players who don't finish off their target completely vulnerable while they reload.
In general, players who tend to have great aim in FPS games will love the Laika, as it doesn't require aiming down as scope as the Albatross 21 does and they don't need to get close to the enemy like with the Boomstick. But, for players who aren't confident in their aim, the Laika is a bit of a round-thrower to use. Cards that work well with this gun are Big Mag, Bullet Time, Energy Drink, Steel Bullets, Big Head, Health Down, No Jump, and Ninja Log.
If any gun is going to instantly turn the tide of a round or throw it even harder in Friends vs Friends, it's the Punch-R Rocket Launcher. This is the perfect gun to either kill an opponent (or both opponents) in one shot or for a player to either kill themselves or their teammate with the explosive rounds.

This gun is lacking in just about every category except for its damage, but that's all it needs. In exchange for having a slow reload speed, awful fire rate, and a small magazine, each round will basically empty half or more of the enemy's health bar, depending on how close they are to the explosion. And, given how small the maps are in this game and how easy it is to corner people, it's even easier to make use of this explosive launcher. It's no wonder guns like this or rocket launchers are so iconic in other video game franchises as well. In any case, cards like Move Faster, More Accuracy, Tin Man, Invisible, No Jump, Move Slower, and Health Down work amazingly in combination with this gun.
And hilariously enough, the best Weapon in this music-centric indie first-person-shooter game isn't a gun, it's a literal Katana. The Katana is a weapon players who unlock Sable Santana will become intimately familiar with, as she starts each and every round with it. Basically, the Katana is an absolute health shredder to opponents, but the downside is that the player needs to get in melee range to inflict this damage which can be tricky.
Or, it would be tricky if the Katana didn't also have the ability to block incoming bullets from the front when the player is holding their Secondary Action button, and those bullets will only do 10 percent of the damage they normally would if blocked. So, don't think it'll be easier to 'shred' an approaching opponent wielding a Katana, it's going to take some real work. The best counter for this weapon is the same as the counter to the Boomstick, just keep a distance between the player and the Katana user at all times.
To get around this, Katana players can use cards like Move Faster, Move Slower, Health Down, Invisible, No Jump, Empty Mag, Small Mag, Less Accuracy, Medkit, Double Jump, Small Head, Health Up, and Helmet. Essentially, any card that makes it easier for the Katana user to approach or harder for the other player to escape is something that anyone using this weapon should become intimately familiar with.
Friends vs Friends is available now on Steam and is planned to be coming out on consoles later in 2023.
