Gio concerned Mets will send down Francisco Alvarez

Francisco Alvarez was a lone bright spot for the Mets on Wednesday night, drilling a two-run home run through the heavy Chicago wind to continue his improved performance at the plate.

Still, Gio has a bad feeling that Alvarez will be sent down once the team's roster crunch at catcher arrives with the returns of Omar Narvaez and Tomas Nido.

"You’ve got two things going on: one, Billy Eppler paid Omar Narvaez pretty decently in the offseason…and now you’re gonna tell me you’re gonna DFA him? There's no way he can do that," Gio said. "My other fear is that Buck Showalter has an unhealthy obsession with Tomas Nido…he loves him behind the plate, and the pitchers love him."

Jerry can't imagine the Mets demoting their top prospect who is finally showing his potential at the plate, but Gio broke out his Showalter impression to detail exactly how it will go down.

"I can hear Buck saying it now: ‘Tomas has been here awhile. He might not be getting it done at the plate right now, but Tomas is a good hitter.’ I can hear it now. ‘Francisco will be there. He’ll be fine. That's why you got options. He's gonna get his opportunity,’" Gio said in his Buck voice.

"I can see it happening. I’m expecting the worst."
