Hornady Ammo Cabinet with Square

Left: The cabinet uses the Square-Lok system that allows easy placement of shelves and accessories. Right top: It comes with three small ammo cans, shelf liners, a battery-powered light and magnetic labels. Right bottom: The four shelf units can be used as half shelves or paired up for full shelves.

The heart of Hornady's new ammo cabinet, and what makes it stand out, is the Square-Lok system. Right away you'll notice the cabinet has square holes in the sides, back and the door. Basically, it's metal pegboard. The cabinet ships with four shelving units that fit into these holes, and you can either pair them for a full shelf or use them as half shelves. Thanks to the hole placements, you can set up the shelves in any location.

If you want more shelves, you can order them from Hornady. Better still, the company offers a wide variety of Square-Lok storage accessories. These include different styles of shelves, parts bins and pistol racks. I'm already planning on adding a parts bin and a couple of pistol racks.

The shelves will handle up to 100 pounds, and because they're so sturdy and my reloading setup had gotten out of hand, I decided for now to use the cabinet primarily for component bullets, primers and similar items. The shelves are easy to install, and the cabinet comes with three shelving mats that protect the finish of the shelves or, depending on what you're putting on them, your gear. There's a light on a magnetic strip you can place wherever you want illumination.

Like I said, my components had gotten out of hand, and I used the three small plastic ammo "cans" that come with the cabinet to hold loose component bullets I'm currently loading. They'd also be great for loose ammo.

Need more space? The cabinets can be paired up, and they're light enough to be stackable. The cabinet locks via a vertical bar that slides behind the top and bottom lip. This isn't a safe, but it offers enough security to keep out the curious. Two barrel keys are provided.

Hornady's ammo cabinet provides a huge amount of storage flexibility, and it does so at a decent price of $629.
