Items that you can't include in your hand luggage with TUI, easyJet, Ryanair and Jet2

Before you head off on holiday, there are some rules you need to know

Holiday season is around the corner, and with more and more sunshine, it's safe to say that summer is finally here. However, if you plan to jet away with a particular airline, there are some important things you need to know.

Before you get there, and even before you arrive at the airport, there are some rules you need to familiarise yourself with if you’re travelling with TUI, easyJet, Ryanair or Jet2.

When it comes to what you can and cannot pack in your hand luggage, it can be rather useful to know which items you cannot bring - or at all when travelling in the air.

Everyone knows that taking liquids in your hand luggage is an issue as there are restrictions on how much you can carry. Most airlines state that containers must hold no more than 100ml otherwise it’ll be removed.

If you’re thinking liquids are just items like bottled water, you might want to think again. Things such as lipgloss, mascara, honey, jam, hand sanitizer, toothpaste, contact lens solutions or hair gel are all items that are considered as liquids.

There are a small number of exemptions for liquid containers larger than 100ml, such as for essential medication purposes or special dietary requirements. There is also no limit on how much baby food and milk you can take through security, but check with the airport beforehand.

There are also a number of other items that you cannot include in your hand luggage at all. The following list includes:

Liquid oxygen

Stunning devices

Ammunition

Guns, firearms and all other devices that discharge projectiles, including replicas

Camping stoves

Mercury thermometers

Explosives including fireworks

Blunt instruments including baseball bats and fishing rods

Chemical or toxic substances

Workmen's tools including drills and crowbars

Sharp objects including knives and razor blades - though disposable razors are allowed

Hoverboards

"Smart Luggage" (a bag or suitcase with a battery)

Pets or any animals other than assistance dogs

Party poppers

Print and toner cartridges that weigh more than 500g

Lighter fuel - though passengers are allowed to carry one disposable lighter in a clear resealable plastic bag
