The best ammo type in Warzone 2.0 and Modern Warfare 2
What should you be looking for?
Warzone 2.0 and Modern Warfare 2 offer several different types of ammunition to choose from. Some tout improved bullet velocity, while others have more niche benefits such as crippling and slowing your target.
But which is the best ammo type to use? The answer may vary depending on the situations you most often find yourself in, and whether you’re playing battle royale or multiplayer.
Here's a breakdown of the different ammo types and the best one to use.
Frangible ammo inflicts a wounding effect, which temporarily delays healing. This amounts to quite a significant slowdown, from 5 seconds to 9.7 seconds, according to TheXclusiveAce. The longer healing time can prove deadly in multiplayer, allowing opponents to chase you down and finish you off.
It is less clear-cut in battle royale, where the delay in healing only takes effect once you break your opponent's armor plates. You’ll also have to think twice about the damage range penalty, especially given the vast expanses of Al Mazrah.
Hollowpoint ammo cripples your opponents, which stops them from sprinting and inflicts a slight disorienting effect. While this sounds great on paper, it only works when you shoot enemies in the legs. This means going for lower damage and a less optimal time-to-kill, which seems counter-intuitive.
The trade-offs are also lower bullet velocity and bullet penetration. Warzone 2.0 players will find the hit to bullet velocity particularly hard to swallow, considering the size of Al Mazrah.
It's not too noticeable on the smaller 6v6 core maps in multiplayer, but battle royale is a different matter altogether.
A Season 1 patch removed the damage multiplier against armored opponents, but these rounds retain their boost to bullet penetration and vehicle damage.
This means you’ll have an easier time taking down pesky killstreaks like the Wheelson-HS and aerial menaces like the VTOL jet. Once again, the bullet velocity penalty is not too significant in multiplayer, but remains something you want to take note of in Warzone 2.0.
Overpressured rounds provide quite a large increase of flinch on your target, which refers to how far upward their reticle moves when shot.
It is most effective against sniper rifles, with marksman rifles also being affected to a lesser extent. If there's a particularly annoying sniper in your lobby, it might be worth switching to this ammo type. In comparison, weapons like assault rifles or SMGs are not affected as much.
As a result, this is still a very situational and niche pick, especially in Al Mazrah.
This is probably the best pick for battle royale players. The improvement to bullet velocity is significant, which means you have to lead your shots less if you’re trying to gun someone down at a distance.
It forces you to give up some damage range, but that can be easily made up for with the right barrel or muzzle attachment.
In multiplayer, however, bullet velocity is far less important, and the extra attachment slot is best utilized for something else.
Not all weapons utilize incendiary ammo, and you’ll only find it on select weapons like LMGs, battle rifles, marksman rifles, and sniper rifles.
It inflicts a low burn effect to targets, with the added bonus of vehicle damage. It is the best ammo type when it comes to taking down killstreaks, but the negatives in terms of bullet velocity, damage range, and bullet penetration are huge.
Bullet velocity takes a 25 percent hit, according to TheXclusiveAce, which means you will start to struggle at longer ranges. On top of that, you give up bullet penetration entirely, and will no longer be able to damage opponents through surfaces.
Explosive rounds are unique to sniper rifles like the Signal 50 and Victus XMR. However, when equipped on the Victus XMR, it turns it into a one-shot headshot beast in Warzone 2.0.
Bullets explode on contact, giving additional damage range as well. You lose some bullet velocity, but the scope on the Victus XMR is able to help you account for bullet drop, so all you have to do is line up the red dot.
