The Best Weapons In System Shock Remake

Here are the best weapons in System Shock Remake!

From mutants and cyborgs to robots and hijacked machinery, there are plenty of enemies to fight in the System Shock remake. With so many enemies and the situations they can impose, it's important to choose the most appropriate weapons for each encounter. After all, futuristic problems require futuristic solutions.

Due to such an overwhelming variety of ballistic and energy based weapons to choose from, it's tempting to just blast your enemies with whatever is in your hands, regardless of the situation. To help make you more efficient and deadly, here are nine weapons that easily eclipse your average lead pipe or wrench in System Shock.

Available for all of your close range, enemy obliterating needs is the SK-27 Shotgun. Due to ammo scarcity, it's best to use the SK-27 strategically, such as against large groups of enemies so that all of your pellets hit, or against large, tanky enemies.

This shotgun can deal good chunks of damage, and does well with run-and-gun tactics, such as poking in and out around corners to trade damage. If you encounter tough or high threat enemies, like gorilla-tigers or higher tier robots and cyborgs, the SK-27 has you covered.

Energy based weapons are nice to have because instead of physical ammo, they can be recharged, either through batteries or recharging stations. The TB-05 Sparqbeam is no exception, firing energy rounds that deal damage and consume energy proportionate to the power setting you choose.

Although the Sparqbeam isn't going to deal mind-blowing damage compared to other weapons, it's best seen as either a utility or fallback weapon. Don't want to get close to explosive or flying enemies? Just ran out of ammo for your main weapon? Sparqbeam is here for you.

Compared to the KE-41 Minipistol, the Magnum 2100 comes out on top, both in looks and damage. Despite being similar to the SK-27 in terms of ammo scarcity, this weapon balances that with its high damage output, and the ability to switch between hollow tips and heavy slug rounds.

While the Magnum 2100 does well at all ranges, the main thing to remember is to use the right ammo for the right situation. Use hollow tips for fleshier, less armored enemies, and heavy slug rounds for tankier, well armored enemies.

The JW-76 Mag-Pulse Rifle can be imagined as the Sparqbeam's older brother that you wouldn't want to mess with. Effective and capable, the only thing holding this weapon back is its Magnetic-Pulse Cartridges, which can be difficult to find at times.

You'll get ten shots per cartridge, which is a decent capacity. Where this weapon shines, however, is against robotic enemies.

Since the JW-76 is electromagnetic, you'll be effective at disabling and destroying any robot you come across, regardless of how strong or scary they are.

Chambered in 9mm, the KF-18 Skorpion is a remarkable, reliable weapon with a high fire rate and an abundance of ammunition to choose from. Compared to the Minipistol, it has better ammo capacity, damage, and armor penetration.

If you're using standard 9mm rounds, you'll only have 25 percent armor penetration. With Teflon-Coated rounds, you'll get 55 percent armor penetration. Regardless, this gun is basically a bullet hose, so really the only things in your way are getting the weapon in the first place, and poor trigger discipline.

Found towards the mid-game, the Mark III Assault Rifle is a fantastic burst-fire kinetic weapon ideally used against well-armored enemies. Since the minimum amount of armor penetration you'll have is 60 percent, this weapon, while still very effective, is somewhat of a waste against fleshier enemies, like flying or humanoid mutants.

Using Penetrator Rounds, your armor penetration will top out at an impressive 75 percent. If you really wanted to, given the reliability and damage output of this weapon, you could go the rest of the game with the Mark III once you find it.

It's hard to beat the utility of a good old-fashioned EMP Grenade when you're up against robotic enemies. On detonation, any robot in the blast radius will be disabled for multiple seconds, providing an opening to get free damage in without the threat of retaliation.

Grenades in System Shock aren't that hard to come by, so as long as you're not spamming them every chance you get, you should always have at least a couple of EMP Grenades on hand. One ammo-saving strategy you can use is following up an EMP Grenade with some melee hits.

Although you'll have to go through some hoops and invest some time into the game, getting your hands on the LG-XX Plasma Rifle is incredibly worth it. While its default "Low" setting is great, you can also load Plasma Cores to access an alternate firing mode.

If you want to obliterate what's in front of you, the LG-XX's alternate firing mode fires a 300-damage plasma orb that will bounce around a few times before dissipating, making it capable of hitting multiple enemies with a single shot. Just try not to get hit by your own plasma orb, that'd be embarrassing.

About as close as you'll get to a Jedi from Star Wars, the Laser Rapier is a fantastic melee weapon. Because of its incredibly high armor penetration, and small energy cost per swing, this weapon is effective against every enemy you'll come across.

The only obvious drawback of the Laser Rapier is the fact that it's melee; you'll have to get close and risk taking damage. Otherwise, this weapon gets the job done and is the melee weapon you should use for the rest of the game once acquired.
