10 churro
A wide variety of churro-flavored products are available in San Antonio-area stores.
Brace yourself for an onslaught of cinnamon and sugar, San Antonio. National Churro Day is June 6, and you can bet the city will be swimming in those sweet, fried delights.
And the big boys are getting in on the action as well. Confection giant Hershey recently turned churro-loving heads with the announcement of a churro-flavored version of the beloved snappy Kit Kat bars to be released on National Churro Day. Kit Kat is owned by Nestlé, but the Hershey Co. produces the bars in the U.S.
"The new flavor is a delightful homage to the beloved dessert that brings back memories of summer no matter where you are in the world — pairing that signature churro taste with the familiar crunch of a Kit Kat bar," Hershey said in a media release. "Much like the freshly baked, sweet, doughy treat, Kit Kat Churro features buttery churro-flavored creme with sugar mixed between the brand's fan-favorite wafers."
Best churros: 5 San Antonio restaurants for the best churros
While Kit Kat may have all the Johnny-come-lately churro traction right now, they're far from the only player in the game. This week, we rounded up as many churro-inspired products as we could find in San Antonio-area grocery stores and gave them all a try. Consider any of the following for your next cinnamon and sugar fix.
Ben & Jerry's Churray for Churros! Ice Cream
Ice cream giant Ben & Jerry's recently added this flavor to its lineup. Their signature creamy vanilla ice cream serves as a base, punctuated by chewy bits of chopped-up churros and swirls of crunchy cinnamon and sugar. It's every bit as satisfying as you'd expect from a hybrid of two perfect San Antonio sweets.
Cinnamon Toast Crunch Churros Cereal
Who says churros can't be for breakfast? Cinnamon Toast Crunch already had the flavor profile down with its signature product, so reconfiguring its cereal into a petite churro shape was a no-brainer for General Mills. They're a little unwieldy with smaller spoons but deliver plenty of crunchy churro indulgence.
Copper Cow Coffee's Churro Ground Coffee
This California-based roaster works with beans sustainably harvested from Vietnam, and it only uses real herbs and spices in its flavor blends. In this case, the java features a bit of ground cinnamon. With a spoonful of sugar stirred into a cup, the taste of churros shines through.

Friendly Grains Cinnamon Churro Crunchy Rollers
Plain rice cakes are boring. These logs of puffed organic brown rice are not. They're barely sweet but contain a potent hit of cinnamon. These superbly crunchy snacks are vegan, gluten-free and have a "Safe For School" endorsement.
Mindright Cinnamon Churro Popped Chips
Don't look in the chip aisle for these airy crisps. Mindright calls these a "nootropic-infused superfood," and Central Market stocks them with the nutritional supplements. The chips are loaded with Vitamins B6 and B12, lion's mane, ginseng and other health boosters. They also happen to taste pretty great with all the sweet and spice you'd expect from a churro.
Moody Tongue Brewing Co.'s Caramelized Chocolate Churro Baltic Porter
Yes, you can drink your churros now. This punchy brew clocks in at 7 percent alcohol by volume, but the booze doesn't distract from the pleasant flavor and aroma of Mexican cinnamon, chocolate and vanilla. This beer can stand up to big flavors in a pairing and would also go well with dessert.
Siete Grain Free Churro Strips
This Austin-based producer first made its mark with grain-free tortilla chips created from cassava flour and quickly became a darling of consumers avoiding gluten. Siete's churro strips are light and airy with an intense crunch and a subtle taste of cinnamon and sugar. The sweetness is fairly restrained, making these easy to munch on all night long.
Spudsy Cinnamon Churro Sweet Potato Puffs
These crunchy treats look like tiny cheese puffs, but the flavor is pure churro. They're made from a blend of rice and sweet potato flour, pea protein isolate, and other vegan and gluten-free ingredients. They're a bit sweeter than Siete's churro strips, and have a fairly robust crunchiness and dense chew.

Trusnack Churro Cinnamon Oat Bar
We should all expect more from a granola bar than simply belly-filling oats, and Trusnack gives us just that in this churro-inspired treat. While oats are the backbone of this hefty bar, cinnamon, piloncillo sugar and chewy raisins provide a distinct and lovable churro experience.
Unite Food Churro Flavor Protein Bar
These bars provide an impressive 11 grams of protein, courtesy primarily of almond butter and concentrated whey protein. But the fun begins with the cinnamon, sugar and slight touch of sea salt. These bars are partially sweetened with dates, which takes the churro taste in a slightly fruity direction, but the spirit of that deep-fried dessert is still intact.
Yellow Yak Churro Chews
A wide variety of churro-flavored products are available in San Antonio-area stores.
Who says churros are only for humans? These churro-shaped dog treats come in bacon and cheese flavors, and a variety of densities for aggressive chewers or pups with more tender teeth. While the vet may not approve sharing a Kit Kat with your four-legged friend, these chewy treats can help make sure your fur baby doesn't miss out on the National Churro Day fun.
