CMP To Sell Surplus Ammunition This Spring

The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) has announced that they have acquired a large surplus of ammunition!

30 carbine, .22 pistol, M2 ball, and .22 Long Rifle surplus ammunition supply that will soon become available to CMP customers. For now, the ammo is being inspected and checked by the CMP.

"The CMP plans to make the ammunition available to our loyal constituents sometime this spring, after the surplus ammo goes through all CMP in-processing procedures," said Mark Johnson, CMP's Chief Operating Officer and Director of Civilian Marksmanship. "Purchase limits and restrictions will be set to ensure that the mission of CMP is well served."

More details about the limits, types, and calibers will be provided in the near future. The CMP also reminds us that commercial ammo is for sale on the CMP E-store to qualified persons.

The CMP is also planning to keep back an unspecified amount of ammo to support CMP matches for the next several years. This ammo will be provided to CMP match shooters at a discounted rate for use in CMP matches.

While no details about the ammo type, amount, or origin have been provided, we can see from the pictures released by the CMP that the M2 ball ammo is likely City Lake surplus ammo from 1969 production. It is unclear of this ammo is linked or unlinked.

This is not confirmed and is subject to change, but it at least provides a possible glimpse as to what will come.
