Jerome "Jerry" John DiNicola Jr.

Jerome "Jerry" John DiNicola, Jr. passed away in the early morning of April 20th, a couple of months after celebrating his 69th birthday. He spent his last weeks surrounded by family, including his two sisters, Carolyn and Janet. Jerry John was an accomplished athlete and a charismatic gentleman who touched the lives of everyone he met. He always took pride in his work and hobbies, whether cooking with his family, mowing the grass, taking a long run, drawing, or singing in the choir. He set an example for all of those around him on how to live in the moment without judgment.

Jerry took an active role in his church where he was the acolyte and honorary assistant pastor.

Among his athletic accomplishments, he earned a bronze medal in swimming at the first ever national Special Olympics, and in cross-country skiing at the international Special Olympics. He ran in several mini-marathons and loved kayaking. He proudly served as grand marshall in a parade at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Even on his last day of life, he continued to set records by being the 7th oldest individual with Down Syndrome in recorded history. Jerry John, as well as his infectious optimism and love of life, will truly be missed by his family, community, and those whose lives he touched.

The visitation will be held at Christ Lutheran Church in Vienna, WV, on June 16th at 9:30 a.m., followed by an 11 a.m. service. Jerry's family encourages all who knew him to join in celebrating his life at this time. A family interment will be held at the Mount Peace Cemetery in Minersville, PA, on June 17th where Jerry will be laid to rest with his mother Carol, and Father, Jerome, Sr. For those who would like to commemorate Jerry John, donations can be made to the Wood County Society, a disability services and support organization.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.leavittfuneralhome.com.
