‘Men in Black’ Shoot Guard at Rubaga Fuel Station; Rob Gun
Uganda's security services have started the hunt for militants who killed a guard at a fuel station in Kampala before taking off with a gun on Friday night.
The incident occurred at around 9:00pm while James Amuriat, a security guard, was on duty at Nesta Petrol Station in Lusaze in Rubaga Division, Kampala City.
"The fuel station was attacked by two men dressed in black armed with a pistol," said ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police.
Amuriat was seated browsing through his phone when two men dressed in black came to the station with a jerrican and bought petrol.
Owoyesigyire said the attackers "then moved towards the deceased (Amuriat) and shot him three times before disarming him of his rifle with 5 rounds of ammunition which they took off with."
"The Police were informed and responded and Amuriat was rushed to Rubaga Hospital but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on arrival."
Such incidents or gun crime had reduced in Uganda.
"We have since established that the attackers could have escaped using their vehicle which was parked about 400m from the scene," said Owoyesigyire.
"More details will be availed as soon as we get them, as investigations into the incident continue."
The body of Amuriat, 26, who was working with SGA security company, is at the city mortuary at Mulago National Referral Hospital for postmortem.
