Lidl wines are phenomenally good value, so here's our pick of the best

When it comes to great value wines, Lidl is one of the names on everyone's lips.

While they might be best known for the "Lidl Middle" (the middle aisle where you can find everything from barbecues to school supplies and other cult items, if you didn't already know) but the budget supermarket also does some unbelievably tasty wines.

While all the standard wines on the shelves are stellar, it's the Lidl Wine Tour selection that deserves your attention. The collection of seasonal wines rotates every couple of months, usually consisting of around 30 wines!

At the moment, the focus for the supermarket is 100% on the summer's favourite drink: rosé. Following sales data from the first heatwave of 2022, which saw Lidl sell a bottle of rosé every second when temperatures hit 28°C!

With such huge sales in rosé, it's safe to say that the wine geeks at Lidl are pretty well versed when it comes to the best way to enjoy the drink on a summer's day. Lidl's Master of Wine, Richard Bampfield says that while it might be tempting to keep your pink drink within arm's reach, you should be firmly setting it in the shade: "not only will direct sunlight warm up the wine, but if the wine is bottled in clear glass, it will also impact the aroma and after-taste," he says. The impact can be even greater for fizz, as it can quickly go flat in the sun.

The best thing to do is obvs keep your wine in the shade, but Richard has another idea that might not be very glam, but it does work: "To make sure your favourite wine stays fresh, it's always best to find a shady spot for both your wine bottle and glass. Alternatively, you can wrap the bottle in newspaper or aluminium foil."

It's safe to say that Lidl buyers do an excellent job of sourcing some fun wines for their Wine Tour collections and beyond, so without further ado, let's get into the best red, white, rosé and even sparkling wines from Lidl.

A Provence rosé is a classic, so this one is a must from Lidl's wine selection. It's bone dry with a little fruitiness - the perfect aperitif.

This one's brand new for 2023, and it's got a super pretty bottle too. It's got loads of freshness and would make a lovely wine spritzer.

Hailing from the famous Uco Valley, one of Argentina's finest wine growing areas, this fruity wine has lovely plummy notes, making it an excellent wine for pairing with food.

This cheap and cheerful bottle will only set you back about a fiver, and it does the job when it comes to fresh and fruity rose. Stick it on the barbecue spread drinks table and it'll go down a treat.

Made with Sicily's native grapes, this wine is a great choice for a crowd-pleasing medium red.

Portuguese wine is seriously slept on, so we love this fruit-forward, intense red from Portugal's Douro Valley.

Cava is Europe's best value fizz, so there's no surprise this bottle features in our pick of Lidl's best wines.

Yep, that's right. Lidl does Champagne! This rose bottle has apple-y notes with red fruits and a nice creaminess. Match with a prawn dish for the ultimate food pairing.

Grüner Veltliner is about to become your new favourite white, trust us. It's fresh and citrusy but with the added bonus of some aromatic notes that really make for a special wine.

Love a Sauvy B but fancy a change? This wine is made with Spain's native white grape verdejo, which displays loads of the same characteristics as the New Zealand favourite.
